The Renyolds Jury Office

Happy 5th Birthday to Reynolds Jury
Architecture Limited

Reynolds Jury Architecture Limited began trading on 1 December 2004. Since then it has covered a lot of ground…

The first 5 years of any business are an important time: There is a need to establish yourself quickly in a sometimes crowded marketplace, whilst seeking to retain the principles that inspired you to start the business in the first place. Reynolds Jury

has managed to walk this line due to the experience and existing reputation of its partners, as well as the quality of its output. Nowhere is this better exemplified than in the design and construction of its own offices (left), which were completed in April 2008. Using sustainable materials in conjunction with modern design principles, RJA were able to create a distinctive building that sits proudly in its historic location, and received an award from the Campaign for the Protection of Rural England.

100 Years of Wearing Hastings and Norton

The legacy of Stanley J Wearing and his successive business partners has been donated to the Norfolk Record Office for safe-keeping.

The practice was established in 1910 by Stanley J Wearing FRIBA. His first commission was the YMCA in Thetford. Other buildings include St Mary’s Baptist Church, the Howlett and White Shoe factory and many houses for rent commissioned by local authorities. During WW2, the National Buildings Record appointed him to sketch old buildings in Norwich and Norfolk. He was author of Georgian Norwich: Its Builders and 3 volumes of Beautiful Norfolk Buildings.

Barry Hastings was taken into partnership in 1953. Both Anthony Rossi FRIBA and Michael Brooks FRIBA have been involved in the partnership. Recently, Terry Norton RIBA AABC traded from 14 Princes Street, Norwich as the sole partner in the firm. He has been retained as a Consultant by Reynolds Jury Architecture who acquired the practice in June 2006.

The practice’s Clients have included local charities like The Great Hospital, Norwich Consolidated Charities and St Martin’s Housing Trust. Ecclesiastical work included the Baptist Union, Roman Catholic Dioceses and particularly the Anglican Diocese of Norwich. Many private Clients commissioned bespoke houses, small

development schemes and commercial premises. Reynolds Jury Architecture are pleased that many of these established Clients have subsequently commissioned the firm, thus continuing a longstanding, working relationship.

Business records, drawings, architectural sketch books and Stanley Wearing’s antiquarian papers have been deposited with the Norfolk Record Office (catalogue reference BR332) and are available for research purposes.
